Outdoor Demonstration of Newton's Law of Motion
During one of the Matter & Energy classes, the students were so excited about
an outdoor activity designed to demonstrate the practical application of Newton's Law of Motion that a number of them
volunteered to provide their personal skateboards. It was gratifying to observe the interaction among the students as
they follow the directions on the activity. Then came the challenge of managing the students so that
they could operate safely to achieve a positive learning outcome by enhancing their understanding of the key concepts
underlying Newton's Law of Motion. At the end of the outdoor activity, the students returned to the classroom where
they shared their ideas during class discussion on Newton's Laws. As a teacher, I was particularly impressed about
the students initiative, creativity, and team spirit. This confirmed my view that a well-managed classroom would not
only help to engage the students in a task-oriented manner, but would also lead to achieving the desired positive learning
outcome.
