MANAGEMENT EXPERIENCE:

 

Project Manager/Senior Technical Analyst                                    1998-2005

Public Affairs International, Inc. (PAI), Silver Spring, U.S.A.

·         Directed several, multi-disciplinary projects.

·         Conducted, coordinated and managed Readiness Evaluation for Task Forces within the US&R System. Also, designed, developed and implemented evaluation instruments.

·         Planned, managed and monitored program budget.

·         Performed and supervised technical writing and editorial services.  

 

RESEARCH EXPERIENCE:

 

Postdoctoral Fellow (Dermatology)                                               1996-1998

University of California San Francisco (UCSF), San Francisco, U.S.A.

·         Delineated the role of UDP-glucose:ceramide-D-glucosyltransferase (GCS) in epidermal barrier ontogenesis/differentiation as well as in permeability barrier homeostasis.

·         Developed and characterized a model for human chronological aging.

 

Senior Postdoctoral Fellow (Molecular Biology,  Immunopharmacology & Dermatology)          1990-1992, 1994-1996

 

Novartis Research Institute, Vienna, Austria                                 

·         Determined and analyzed the genomic structure of NKG5 as part of Novartis Research Institute's search for new cytokines/growth factors.

·         Screened, identified and characterized potential lead compounds for drug development.

·         A patent co-registrant with Dr. Kricek, et al. for Novartis Research Institute.

·         Characterized the regulation and expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (NOS) gene in human epidermal keratinocytes.

·         Developed, optimized and validated cell-free and cell-based assay systems for NOS.

·         Screened and identified nitric oxide (NO)-inhibitors for drug development.

·         Identified and characterized inducible NOS as a potential target for therapeutic intervention in psoriasis.

·         Characterized the expression of cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterase 4 isotypes by primary keratinocytes and human epidermoid cell lines.

·         Analyzed and correlated the effect of PDE type IV inhibitors on pro-inflammatory mediator production.

 

Postdoctoral Fellow (Gene Therapy)                                              1992-1994

Vienna International Research Co-Operation Center (VIRCC), Vienna, Austria

·         Participated in the pioneering research activities of VIRCC's gene therapy project against AIDS.

·         Constructed and analyzed retrovirus-based vectors as a means of delivering transdominant negative genes against HIV- I infection to T-cells.

·         Evaluated various promoters with respect to their efficiencies and relative usefulness for the gene therapy project.
