the role of UDP-glucose:ceramide-D-glucosyltransferase (GCS) in epidermal barrier ontogenesis/differentiation as well as in
permeability barrier homeostasis.
· Developed
and characterized a model for human chronological aging.

· Determined
and analyzed the genomic structure of NKG5 as part of Novartis Research Institute's search for new cytokines/growth factors.
· Screened,
identified and characterized potential lead compounds for drug development.

patent co-registrant with Dr. Kricek, et al. for Novartis Research Institute.
· Characterized
the regulation and expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase (NOS) gene in human epidermal keratinocytes.

optimized and validated cell-free and cell-based assay systems for NOS.

and identified nitric oxide (NO)-inhibitors for drug development.

and characterized inducible NOS as a potential target for therapeutic intervention in psoriasis.

in the pioneering research activities of VIRCC's gene therapy project against AIDS.
